City rivals collide in the English Premier League weekend finale, as Manchester City battles Manchester United in a Sunday morning matchup at Etihad Stadium. The match is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Manchester City are currently in second place in the Premier League standings and have been inconsistent so far this season. The home side thrashed Luton Town by a 6-2 scoreline in the FA Cup this week and will be confident ahead of this fixture.

New Manchester United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear he wants to knock City off their perch and this is a big game for Erik ten Hag, as he fights to prove he is the right manager to lead them into their new era.

Both sides made it through into the FA Cup quarter-finals this week in very different circumstances. Erling Haaland scored five goals as City muscled past Luton 6-2, while United had to rely on a late Casemiro winner to edge past Nottingham Forest.

West Ham scored twice in stoppage time to come from behind at Goodison Park as a mixed afternoon for Everton striker Beto ended in a 3-1 defeat.

The Portuguese forward’s redemptive goal after missing the Toffees’ first penalty of the season had put his side ahead but his joy was short-lived.

Kurt Zouma equalised within six minutes and then Tomas Soucek, with a brilliant outside-of-the-foot strike in the 91st minute was followed by Edson Alvarez’s breakaway as Everton’s winless run was extended to 10 matches.

A week which began with news of the Toffees’ 10-point deduction being reduced to six, lifting them out of the relegation zone, ended with more recriminations and questions.

City are 15 points above United, won 3-0 at Old Trafford in October and Erling Haaland will be looking to pile more misery on their rivals after his five goals against Luton.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are in sixth place in the league table at the moment and have improved in recent weeks. The Red Devils edged Nottingham Forest to a narrow 1-0 victory in their previous game and will look to achieve a similar result this weekend.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says the Premier League champions are ready for rivals Manchester United to try to “close the gap” ahead of Sunday’s derby match at the Etihad Stadium.

The near neighbours are separated by 15 points in the league with City battling to defend their title while United are struggling to keep pace in the race for Champions League qualification.

Rodrigo Muniz was on the scoresheet again as Fulham claimed an impressive 3-0 win over Brighton at Craven Cottage.

The Brazilian forward claimed his fifth Premier League goal in his last five matches after Harry Wilson’s long-range effort put the Cottagers’ ahead.

Adama Traore came off the bench to score in second-half added time.

Fulham registered their first back-to-back league wins since December after their 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

New minority owner at Old Trafford, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, laid out his plans to return the 20-time English champions to the summit when he completed his acquisition of 27 percent of the club’s shares this month, including re-establishing the pecking order in the city.

Ahead of Sunday’s match, Guardiola admits the recent change at United is likely to change matters.

“Sir Jim and others know the diagnosis of the club. If Sir Jim said they need two or three years to be there, who am I to say the opposite?” the manager said.

“I’m sure they will work to close the gap.”

Manchester City have stuttered regularly throughout their Premier League campaign but seem to have found their feet in recent weeks. Erling Haaland scored five goals against Luton Town this week and will look to replicate his heroics on Sunday.

Jack Grealish is City’s only major absentee and is expected to be ruled out of action until after the international break later this month, albeit Josko Gvardiol is yet to return to action. Guardiola last week confirmed, however, the defender was getting close to making his comeback.

Pep Guardiola will be desperate to keep pace with Liverpool and Arsenal in what has been a furious title race so far, while Erik ten Hag is under pressure to prove his worth after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover with an ongoing power struggle at the heart of the Old Trafford club.

The Cityzens ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford earlier this season, with an Erling Haaland double and Phil Foden securing a comfortable victory. Ten Hag has been caught up in a bizarre row with Fulham over a social media post appearing to mock captain Bruno Fernandes, while City have found form this week with Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne’s devastating performances at Luton in the FA Cup.

Worryingly for United, Haaland has declared he is “finally feeling good” after a frustrating season on the injury front.

For United, Harry Maguire will likely miss the game. Sofyan Amrabat could start at left-back, with Luke Shaw injured. Rasmus Hojlund will miss the derby, along with Mason Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial.

Manchester United have shown marked improvement over the past month but have a poor recent record at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City are the better team on paper and should be able to win this game.
